Personnel matters will highlight this evening’s Snyder school board meeting at 6 this evening in the school administration building.
Action is expected on recommended contract extensions from Dr. Ronny Collins, SISD superintendent.
Dr. Collins is recommending the contracts of Rod Cottrell, executive director of curriculum and special programs, and Karen Waller, executive director of business and finance, be extended one year to expire June 30, 2006.
Absent from the list of recommended contract extensions is Dr. Melissa Jones, who currently serves as the SISD personnel director. Prior to being named to head the district’s personnel office by Collins, Jones was the assistant superintendent for curriculum, special programs and personnel.
Collins said Jones has indicated she was not coming back to the district next school year.
“There’s no sense in doing a contract if the person is not coming back,” Collins said, noting that he would look at options related to replacing the personnel director, or absorbing the position.
“I’ll be looking at the budget and enrollment,” said Collins.
Other administrative contracts recommended for the two-year extension includes Larry Scott, SHS principal; assistant SHS principals Bill Bell and Al Phillips; junior high principal Kellye Starnes; Ralph Ramon, assistant principal at SJHS; Thomas Fogleman, West principal; Carmen Carpenter, Northeast principal; Pam Hart, Central principal; and Jean McMillon, Stanfield principal.
Also up for extension are Dixie Haggard, director of special programs, and Chad Rogers, athletic director and head football coach.
All contracts expire June 30, 2006.
Lee Presswood, principal at East Elementary, is a contract employee and his pact will be considered at a later date.
The contract of Mike Carter, director of maintenance and transportation, also will be considered for a one-year extension to expire June 30, 2005.
The board also will consider the resignation of junior high science teacher Sonja Hanks who has accepted a position with the Windham School District.
A closed session is scheduled before the trustees vote on the contract extensions.
Trustees also will meet in closed session to discuss a settlement offer with an insurance company.
In one other action item, the board will call the May 15 trustee election as the terms of at-large members Luann Burleson and Cathy Peoples will expire.
