The Ira Bulldogs earned a trip to the postseason Friday, racing out to a 29-point lead in cruising to a 70-52 victory over Sands.

Ira (12-8, 7-2) was up 40-15 at halftime, and blew it open in the third, outscoring Sands 20-6.

Jake Barnes and Bryan Proctor dominated inside, with Barnes putting in a game-high 23 and Proctor collecting 17.

“Jake is going to get his and Bryan really took it to the basket hard,” head coach Randy Jones said. “He’s playing a lot better and getting to know us better.”

Sands made a late surge in the fourth, as Jones used that period to work on things the team will need to use come playoff time.

“We were trying to work on running time off the clock and slowing the game down,” he said. “We worked on some stuff we are going to need for the playoffs.”

Jones said the win was a major relief for the Bulldogs, who close out the season Tuesday against Borden County.

“This was a huge win. It was big for us to clinch, so we won’t have to worry about it at a place like Borden County.”

Corbin Clements canned nine, Jess Wall popped in eight, while Wes Kellner was held to seven points after getting into foul trouble.

Joel Lollar added four and Phillip Payne connected for two for the Bulldogs, who tackle the Coyotes at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the final regular season contest.

The Bulldogs will match-up with Aspermont on Feb. 24 in Post for the bi-district round, with tip-off tentatively set for 7:30 p.m.
