The Snyder varsity boys golfers got off to a sound start for the spring over the weekend, taking second place in the Snyder Tournament with a 630.<p></b></i></u>
Snyder fell 14 strokes shy of tournament winner Lubbock Monterey, which shot a tournament-best 303 in the second round.<p></b></i></u>
The Tigers topped 4A rivals Frenship and Andrews, which finished in third and fourth, respectively.<p></b></i></u>
“It went pretty good,” head coach Ricky Hunter said. “We played 16 holes really good, and two that we didn’t play so well.”<p></b></i></u>
Hunter said the team’s collective struggles on holes two and three prevented them from getting closer to the target score of 300.<p></b></i></u>
Still, Hunter was pleased with the effort and results.<p></b></i></u>
“This early in the season, I’m not disappointed at all with second place in that field.”<p></b></i></u>
Alan Gray carded a 148 in the tournament to give him the second place medal. Tyler Darden of Monterey claimed the first-place medal.<p></b></i></u>
The Snyder JV came in second in Division II, firing a team total 665, 23 strokes shy of first-place Midland Lee. Blake Seal, who fired an 81-77 158, earned the second-place medal, two strokes behind Midland Lee’s Brian Schener.<p></b></i></u>
The boys next will tee-off at Horseshoe Bay for a two-day tournament starting Friday.<p></b></i></u>
