The much-maligned picture quality of some Cox Communication cable channels has improved lately through some new technology.
“This has been a very frustrating process for us,” said Vickie Bennett of Cox’s regional office in Lubbock.
Channel 11 on the cable line-up has caused Snyder viewers grief for many months but it is now sharp.
Bennett said Channel 11’s installation of a new antenna just happened to coincide with the cable system upgrade here.
“What happened is that Channel 11’s new signal was just not as strong as it was,” said Bennett. “And we have no control over signals that come through the air.”
With that in mind, the company tried several ways to improve the reception here.
“We were looking for miracles,” said Bennett.
The company then installed new equipment with state-of-the art technology just to see if it would work to bring in Channel 11 with a viewable picture.
“The signal now comes in through fiber optics,” said Bennett.
“We’re using new, high cost equipment and new technology to bring that channel to Snyder,” said Bennett.
Bennett said she realized some other channels are having problems, but added they could not be put on the same band with as Channel 11 due to other services the bandwidth is used for.
“It’s a major cost factor and capacity factor,” said Bennett.
“At this time, we’re not committed to putting other channels on the network like Channel 11,” said Bennett.
“We’re continuing to evaluate the situation down there, as well as our financial commitment,” concluded Bennett.
