Snyder High School remains in Class AAA, but will be in a new district following realignments announced today by the University Interscholastic League.

The Snyder Tigers will anchor the western portion of District 4-3A that will include Abilene Wylie, Clyde, Merkel and Sweetwater.

Wylie and Clyde are new as conference opponents, but Wylie has long been on the Tigers’ grid schedule.

Tiger head coach Chad Rogers is excited about the new lineup. “Four of the teams made the playoffs last year,” Rogers noted. “Whoever wins this year has a chance of going all the way.”

Wylie stayed in the playoffs for four rounds while Snyder, Sweetwater and Merkel went three rounds. Clyde, the only squad not reaching the playoffs, defeated Wylie during regular season.

Current district foes Lamesa and Seminole will compete in District 3 and will join Fort Stockton, Midland Greenwood, Monahans and Pecos. In basketball, Presidio also will compete in District 3-3A.

The Hermleigh Cardinals, who will jump from six-man football to 11-man competition next fall will be in a seven-team league, District 10-A.

In addition to Hermleigh, the district includes Bronte, Forsan, Roby, Roscoe, Sterling City and Winters.

In basketball, Hermleigh will compete in District 13-A composed of include Ira, Blackwell, Loraine, Roby, Roscoe, Trent and Westbrook.

In six-man football, Ira will compete in District 7 composed of Borden County, Loraine, Highland, Trent and Westbrook.

In basketball District 13 will include Hermleigh, Ira, Blackwell, Loraine, Roby, Highland, Trent and Westbrook.

Also in basketball, Borden County was placed in District 7 that includes Sands, Garden City, Klondike, Grady and Dawson.

Snyder opens the grid season Aug. 27 against Levelland followed by games with Lubbock Estacado, Lubbock Cooper, Midland Greenwood, San Angelo Lake View and Andrews.

District play starts Oct. 8 when the Tigers host Clyde. The Tigers travel to Sweetwater the following week and then hosts Merkel on Oct. 22. Snyder travels to Wylie on Oct. 29.
