The Hermleigh ISD board is expected to vote to hire Jason Brewer as the next athletic director and head coach in a called meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.
Brewer has been a head coach for seven years, and currently is the head football coach and athletic director at Charlotte High School in Atascosa County, where he has been since July of 2002.
Charlotte plays 11-man in district 1-30A.
Brewer coached at Cotulla before taking the Charlotte job.
Hermleigh Supt. Marvin Beaty said Brewer is the “unanimous first-choice” out of the 80 resumes the district received.
He said he felt the board would approve the recommendation.
“We want them (the board) to meet him and get to know him,” he said. “I think the board will be as impressed as we are.
Beaty headed up a selection committee that included Principal Clarence Spieker, two teachers and a parent representative.
He also said five student-athletes had a passive role in the process, serving as campus tour guides for the applicants and providing input on the 12 candidates the committee interviewed.
Beaty said the Charlotte school board has not yet released Brewer from his contract, but hoped that Brewer be at Hermleigh before March.
“That’s something he is discussing with his superintendent. He will start this spring, and we asked that he be here by March 1,” Beaty said. “He’s like to be here sooner, and we’d like to have him as soon as we can.”
