The annual Snyder Wheels Car Show gets underway at 9 p.m. today with a midnight poker run, benefiting Gateway Family Services.

Registration will be in the American State Bank parking lot and the cost is $1 per card, with five cards per hand.

The best poker hand will win $125, while the second best hand will receive $75.

The poker run is open to everyone and it is not limited to car show entries.

Registration for the car show begins at 8 o’clock Saturday morning on the square and will continue until 11 a.m.

The swap meet also opens at 8 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m.

At 11 a.m., the lawn mower drag races will be held and a 1 p.m., the popular burnout contest will get underway.

There is a $5 entry fee for the drag races and $10 for the burnout contest. There will be three classes in this category – stock, modified and professional.

At 4 p.m., the awards will be presented for the car show, and for the contests.

From 6-9 p.m., there will be a controlled cruise on 37th Street from College Avenue to Coliseum Drive.

The street will be closed for the cruise and those wanting to attend are urged to be parked along the curb beginning around 5:30 p.m.

Awards for the cruise will be presented at the Sonic at 9 p.m.

In conjunction with the car show, the Scurry County Antique Tractor and Equipment Club will have a display on the First Baptist Church parking lot.

There will be antique tractors, farm machinery and gasoline engines.

There also will be tractor games, a petal tractor pull and parade at 10 a.m.

In addition, the Ritz Theatre is offering a special presentation of “On Golden Pond” in conjunction with the car show.

There will be a limited number of tickets available for the 1:30 matinee. The box office at the Ritz will open at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The Car Show is sponsored by the Sonic Drive-In and Coca-Cola, and includes a $500 Best of Show award sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts.
