Maxie McNew

1911-2004

Mary Maxie McNew, a retired school cafeteria manager, died Sunday, April 25, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Service for Mrs. McNew, 92, is set for 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Henson, pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Born Oct. 1, 1911 in Mitchell County, she married J.O. McNew on Dec. 26, 1927 in Big Spring. He died April 21, 1983.

Mrs. McNew was cafeteria manager at Central Elementary for many years. She was past worthy patron of Eastern Star, had served on the Martha Ann Woman’s Club board, was named Woman of the Year as a member of the American Business Women’s Association, and had been a member of the Twilight Garden Club. She also was active in the Senior Citizens Center and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters and a daughter-in-law, Mary McNew in January 1991.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Don and Jackie McNew of Snyder and Charles McNew of Mountain Home, Ark.; a sister, Blanche Berry of Garden Grove, Calif.; four grandchildren and spouses, Julia and Randy Reed, Lisa and Glenn Roberts, all of Round Rock, Joanna and Sam Lefler of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Charles McNew Jr. of Columbia, Mo.; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church or to the Scurry County Senior Citizens Center.

Family visitation will be held from 7-8 this evening at the funeral home.

 


Evelyn Wesley

1947-2004

Evelyn Wesley, a former Snyder resident, died Sunday, April 25, in Bender Terrace in Lubbock after a lengthy illness.

Funeral service for Mrs. Wesley 56, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. A brother, the Rev. Carl Braziel of San Antonio, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens.

Born May 5, 1947 in Taylor, Mrs. Wesley was a homemaker and had worked at the Plaza Restaurant for many years.

Three brothers, Luther, Rufus and Nappy Braziel; and one sister, Geneva Tealer, preceded her in death.

Survivors include four sons, Jamal Wesley of Chickasha, Okla., Anthony Wesley and Baron Wesley, both of Monahans, and James Wesley of San Angelo; three sisters, Ida Mae Nelson of Odessa, Burdie Anderson and Mozelle James, both of Snyder; two other brothers, Robert “Cat” Braziel of Snyder, and Bill Braziel of Pompano, Fla.; and 15 grandchildren.

 


Kenneth Lynch

1936-2004

Kenneth Ray Lynch, a former Snyder resident, died Monday, April 26, in Carl Hayden VA Hospital in Phoenix.

Service for Mr. Lynch, 68, is set for 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bell-Cypert Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Michael Howard of Oklahoma, formerly of Snyder, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Snyder Cemetery.

Born Feb. 11, 1936 in Snyder, Mr. Lynch was a guitarist.

His parents, John and Ethel Lynch; and two sisters, Ruth Land and Dorothy Lynch, preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Tracy Alan Lynch of San Angelo, Christopher Lynch of Fort Worth and John Val Lynch of Globe, Ariz.; four daughters, Beverly Diggs of Snyder, Peggy Radelle Bird of Pleasant Grove, Patty Lunelle Southard of Flower Mound and Natalie Jo Sabastian of Globe, Ariz.; two sisters, Johnnie Murl Molinare of Snyder and Mary Helen Cunningham of Pecos; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Family visitation is set for 6-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Judy Adkins

1929-2004

ROTAN -- Julia “Judy” Joe Adkins, mother of Sandy Nichols of Snyder, died Saturday, April 24, in Abilene.

Service for Mrs. Adkins, 75, is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Rotan with Randy Evans and Dutch Parks officiating. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.

Born Feb. 3, 1929 in Kent County, she married Charles “Chuck” Lamar Adkins in 1952 in Snyder. Mrs. Adkins worked at Allsup’s for 25 years and at the same time she worked at Rotan Healthcare Center for 10 years. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vollie and Sarah Reynolds Shipp; her husband, Chuck Adkins in 1974; a son, Billy Don Adkins in 1987; and a brother, Charles Shipp.

Survivors also include a son, Charles Clay Endgate Adkins of Abilene; a son-in-law, Dean Nichols of Snyder; three brothers, Dean Shipp of Friona, Delbert Shipp of Seminole and Buddy Shipp of Childress; and seven grandchildren.

Family visitation is set for 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.
