STEPHENVILLE -- Two Western Texas College rodeo hands stood in first place heading into Saturday’s short round at the Tarleton State University rodeo.
Trent Cormier was atop the bull riding heap after a first-round 86, and Ashley Hadley led the breakaway roping Friday after time of 2.3 seconds.
Teammate Jennifer Weeding was just behind Hadley with a 2.4, while Erin Anglin was eighth with a 3.0.
Clay Bunney (80) and Jake Marshall (76) were second and fourth, respectively, in bareback riding, while James Irish held down third in saddle bronc with a 75.
Sabrina Lay (15.69) was fourth in the barrels, and Hadley (15.72) was fifth in that event.
“It’s close for our women’s team -- no team is way ahead or way behind,” WTC coach Greg Rhodes said. “We had a few men place in the first round, but it’s all going to come down to the short round, and we’ll see how it goes.”
The TSU rodeo was scheduled to conclude Saturday night with championship short round.
