ODESSA -- Tanner Reed and Adndra Dunham both were upended in the semifinals at the Region I-3A tennis tournament at Ratliff Tennis Complex in Odessa.
Dunham took Wylie’s Marissa Briggs to three sets, falling 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.
Reed was topped by Luke Hawk of Clyde in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6.
“Tanner got on a roll in that second set, but Hawk is a heck of a player,” head coach Ted Phillips said. “(Reed and Dunham) both played good. Those were tough matches, but they got after it. We still have some hope, so that’s what we’re holding on to.”
Both Reed and Dunham still have a chance to advance if they win the their third-place games and draw playback matches.
The third place games were scheduled for 1 p.m. today.
Reed, the fourth seed in boys singles, cruised past Micah Boyer of Canyon, 6-1, 6-0 to reach the semifinals, after topping Travis Maloney of Iowa Park in the first round, 6-1, 6-1.
No. 2 seed Dunham advanced to the semifinals in the girls singles, losing only two games in her first two matches.
Dunham beat Jaclyn Gage of Perryton, 6-1, 6-0, in the second round after bouncing Camille Southard of Kennedale, 6-0, 6-1, in the first round.
The boys doubles team of Matt Hale and Jospeh Ynguanzo was bounced in the first round by Chris Roberts and Matt Farley of Cayon, 2-6, 2-6.
