It’s been a pleasant spring for Snyder High School athletes.
Every program has had immense success throughout the district and regional schedules, as the postseasons in each sports are either underway or right around the corner.
The Snyder tennis team took three of four divisions at the district tournament, and advanced all the way to the semifinals in boys and girls singles.
The boys and girls golf teams repeated as district champs despite replacing every player on their respective rosters. Both clubs had a lot to live up to following last year’s dual state championship teams, and performed admirably under new head coach Ricky Hunter.
The girls also placed second at region, continuing their 11-year habit of playing in Austin in May.
The boys track team won district for the first time over two decades, while the girls team had their highest standing ever in district this year.
Snyder is sending seven boys and seven girls from each team to regionals.
Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers, with a new coach and an entirely new infield, repeated as district champions with sound defense and clutch pitching, earning a week off during the bi-district round in the process under first-year head coach Darren Pool.
The baseball team has already clinched a postseason berth, but has a bit more work to do before knowing its postseason match-up. Currently tied for first-place with the arch-rival Mustangs, the Tigers must get through third-place Seminole before the most important game of the year <\!m> so far <\!m> on April 27 at Sweetwater.

Sonny Cumbie may have earned the starting quarterback job at Texas Tech with his performance last weekend.
Cumbie guided the first-string offense to three touchdowns in four possessions in the White and Black scrimmage.
Cumbie, a 2000 graduate of Snyder high school, completed 17 of 20 passes for 198 yards and two touchdown passes.
Cumbie is a fifth-year senior, and -- if head coach Mike Leach holds to form -- should be rewarded for his years spent studying the offense like his predecessor, B.J. Symons.
