Scurry Community Services Inc., operators of the Early Head Start Program and the Head Start Program, has received a $876,000 grant.
The money will fund six months of the head start program and 12 months of the early head start program here, said Ricky Fritz, director of Scurry Community Services.
“Basically, this is a renewal of the existing grants that we receive yearly,” said Fritz.
The grant was awarded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Head Start is a comprehensive child development program for pre-school children, and pregnant women and their families.
It is designed to increase school readiness for young children in low-income families.
