An investigation continues into allegations that staff at the Scurry County Jail brought a male inmate into the female wing of the jail and allowed physical contact between the inmates.
“It’s a policy of mine not to comment on ongoing investigations,” said District Attorney Dana Cooley. “The only thing I can say is everyone involved is taking this investigation very seriously.”
Sheriff Darren Jackson also refused further comment but said he would release a statement when the investigation is completed.
Texas Ranger John Billings said the investigation could take another week or more to complete but said he is still finding a number of conflicts between inmate’s accounts of what might or might not have happened.
“We started this investigation long before anyone on the outside became aware of it.” Cooley said. “I think the Ranger is doing an extremely thorough job.”
