BIG SPRING -- The Western Texas College men’s rodeo team will need a repeat performance in the last rodeo of the year to grab the second spot in the Southwest Conference.

WTC scored over 200 points at the Howard College Rodeo, but finished in third place after being outpointed by second place Tarleton State and third place Odessa.

“The men’s team had a great rodeo,” coach Greg Rhodes said. “Anytime you score over 200 points, you expect to win the rodeo.”

Sam Spreadborough won both the championship round and the average in saddle bronc, posting a 77 Saturday night, while Hadley Hunting took third in the short round and fourth overall.

Cody Carter was first in team roping with a 6.8 and Clay Bunney was nthird in the short go and first in the average in bareback riding.

“Our guys did a great job -- it’s going to come down to the last rodeo, and we’ve got a heck of a shot,” Rhodes said.

The women’s team was fourth in the rodeo, but held on to its second-place standing in the conference.

Sabrina Lay was third in the championship round and third in the average in barrel racing, and Jennifer Weeding third in the short round in breakaway roping.

WTC will participate in its last conference competition of the season beginning Thursday at the TSU rodeo in Stephenville.
