The Western Texas College rodeo hands hold eight top-10 places after the first round of the Howard College Rodeo.

Cody Carter remains in first in calf-roping after recording a time of 10.8 seconds in his event. Carter also is in eighth in team roping with an 8.5.

Guy Simanton and Sam Spreadborough hold down second and third in the saddle bronc competition, with Simanton earning a 72 and Spreadborough getting a score of 71.

Trent Cormier is sixth in saddle bronc with a 74.

Clay Bunney is holding second place in bareback riding with a 73.

Sabrina Lay stands in third in barrel racing with a 16.97, Ashley Hadley is fifth in goat-tying (9.9) and Jennifer Weeding is seventh in breakaw ay roping (3.7).

“We’ve got quite a few women going (Saturday morning), and our men are doing a good job,” head coach Greg Rhodes said.

The rodeo is scheduled to conclude with the championship go Saturday night.
