Snyder city officials have had a good response from residents signing up for the city-wide clean up starting Monday, but they could always use more. Today is the last official day to sign up.

“This is like spring house cleaning for the city and we have had an excellent response,” said City Manager John Gayle.

He said in addition to the regular homeowners signing up, there has been some volunteerism at work as well.

“We have had church groups call in to sign up for a truck to help one of their senior citizen parishioners clean up their property,” he said. “The dump trucks and trailer are being scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis for the cleanup, but we’re not really worried about just these four days.”

He said that, although today is the last official day to sign up for the citywide cleanup the city would take calls Monday or even later if needed.

“We more interested in getting the city cleaned up than we are in a calendar.

The city is still hoping a lot of people will take advantage of the four-day push to get the community involved. During the period the dump trucks will be in the area west of College Ave. and south of 30th Street Monday, east of College. and south of 30th on Tuesday, west of College. and north of 30th on Wednesday and east of College and north of 30th on Thursday.

Gayle is hoping the clean up will continue well past next week, especially since the city has passed on first reading an ordinance that would drop the $35 fee for reserving a truck or trailer. The second reading will be on the agenda in May, Gayle said.

“Once the fee is gone, we will contact residents who have code enforcement violations and make them aware of the service,” he said.

The numbers to call to schedule a pickup during the “City-Wide Clean-Up” campaign are 573-4960 or 573-4969.
