Western Texas College will have to enter the conference tournament the hard way.
Needing to win five of their last six games to get an automatic berth in the WJCAC playoffs, the Westerners were swept aside by Midland College Monday, getting outscored 21-1 in the two run-rule shortened games.
Josh Heiney was credited with the only RBI on the day, drawing a bases-loaded walk to score Derek David in the first inning of a 13-1, five-inning loss in the first game.
Tyler Trout was tagged for the loss in the opener, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks in three innings.
Garrett Graham was shelled in one inning of work, giving up six hits and eight runs -- six unearned -- in the fourth.
Midland beat the Westerners, 8-0, in a seven-inning run-rule game.
WTC (12-34, 6-22) managed just six hits in the nightcap.
Troy Krugar was charged with the loss, giving up three runs on three hits and a pair of free passes in three innings.
The Westerns close out the regular season with a four-game series this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader at noon on Friday at the WTC Complex.
