Seventeen firefighters showed up to battle a fire in a mobile home during the noon hour Monday.

The fire department received the call of smoke coming from a structure at 2105 Gilmore at 12:18 p.m. Firefighters found a fire in the kitchen and heavy smoke throughout the home.

The house belongs to Wayne Highfield who had recently purchased it, according to Snyder Fire Marshal Cy Posey. No one was living in it at the time of the fire, but family had started moving personal effects in, Posey said.

Posey said it was probably an electrical problem that started the blaze but the investigation continues and the cause is listed as undetermined at this time.

“The fire happened at lunchtime and a lot of our volunteers probably missed lunch to help put out the fire, and we appreciate every one of them,” Posey added.
