A 71-year-old Snyder man was found dead Sunday in Towle Park. Investigators said foul play is not suspected.
An autopsy was ordered for John Paul Derryberry, 1911 Martha Ann Blvd. #101, after dispatchers received a welfare concern call at 9:59 a.m. Sunday saying that a man possibly was unconscious at one of the tables in the park.
When Snyder Police Corporal Trey Wilson and officer Mike Counts arrived, an ambulance was summoned and then the justice of the peace.
According to Lt. Jerry Parker, a 9mm handgun was found at the scene.
Peace Justice Deborah Boyd pronounced Mr. Derryberry, a retired cowboy, dead and ordered the autopsy, which was being conducted this morning in Lubbock. Snyder detectives were in Lubbock to observe.
