Snyder’s city-wide cleanup may still be more than a week away but this week is the time to start making plans.

The cleanup is scheduled for April 19-22 and it is conducted not only to remind and encourage residents to clean up property, but gets the city involved by providing dump trucks, trailers and personnel to help haul away large items and large volumes of trash that may be impossible for many to carry to the landfill.

The city helps by providing the trucks but residents who are interested in helping must do their part by scheduling a trash pickup by Friday.

The city will be working west of College Ave. and south of 30th on April 19. The crews will move to east of College Ave. and south of 30th on April 20. City employees will be working west of College Ave. and north of 30th Street on April 21 and move to east of College Ave. and north of 30th Street. Those interested in participating should note the day the truck will be in their area and calling 573-4960 or 573-4969.

Tires are not allowed and items should be able to be lifted up and into a dump truck, according to city officials. Also only residences inside the city limits are eligible and businesses doing demolition or cleanup are excluded.

The city asks that the type of trash requiring pick up be mentioned when reservations are called in. The items should then be placed on the sidewalk by the curb the day before the scheduled pickup. Refrigerators, freezers and other items that use Freon should have the coolant drained and tagged by a licensed recoverer.

The clean up started when the Snyder Chamber of Commerce noted old appliances, tree limbs and assorted trash were pilling up and making parts of the city an eyesore. Since then volunteers have been recruited to help clean up the lots of those who might have difficulty in maintaining their property.

If the schedule is full during the four days set aside for the cleanup, residents who are able may take trash, along with a current utility bill, to the landfill where no dumping fee will be assessed.
