Snyder High School drama students have climbed another rung on the one-act play ladder of success.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream advanced from Area II competition Saturday at Midland College and five thespians garnered acting awards, including best actress for Blake Roberston who plays Helena in William Shakespeare’s comedy.

Two players -- Logan Martin and Coleman Welch -- secured places on the all-star cast. Martin portrays two roles -- Bottom and Pryamus. Welch also has duel roles as Oberon and Theseus.

Two Snyder students received honorable mention all-star cast recognition. Paul Jackson portrays Lysander and Tyler Price is Puck.

Director Michael McQuerry, praised his students Saturday morning. “I felt this young group is maturing through each contest. They are hungry for perfection.”

McQuerry noted that the judge’s comments were favorable and “gave us helpful direction where we want to go next.”

Seminole High School also advanced from the Area II contest. Other high schools in the meet were Greenwood and Monahans.

The SHS drama department now turns its attention to the Region I contest slated in two weeks at Odessa College.

Other SHS students involved in the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream are Stephanie Parmer, Jason Hook, Corie Hernandez, Michael Nelson, Jeff Stanfield, Cade Owen, Lance Turner, Kerissa Shipp, Aurelie Semillon, Nathan Graves, Adrian Brooks, Alyssa Davis, Laura Culwell, Casey Smith, Jerry Ashley, Amanda Blythe, Paula Fritz and Justin Cox.
