Bobby Burney

1935-2004

Bobby H. Burney, a lifelong resident of Scurry County, died Tuesday, April 6, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Funeral service for Mr. Burney, 68, was to be held at 4 p.m. today in the Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mike Henson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Burial followed in the Snyder Cemetery.

Born Nov. 12, 1935 in Snyder, he was the grandson of the late Samuel and Ola Austin, Scurry County pioneers. He also was preceded in death by his parents, Doug and Della Mae Burney.

He was married to Barbara Johnson Burney for 50 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Burney, a graduate of Snyder High School, was a retired foreman for Oryx Energy and also had worked as an oilfield consultant.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burney of Snyder; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Danny Williams of Snyder and Valerie and Gary Martin of Seattle, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and JoAnn Burney of Snyder; four grandchildren, Veronica Williams of Lubbock, Vanessa Winkler and husband Banyan of Cotton Center, and Austin and Mallory Martin, both of Seattle, Wash.; a great-granddaughter, Victoria Winkler of Cotton Center; and his mother-in-law, Joy Johnson Richardson of Snyder.

Friends are contributing to the American Cancer Society.

 


Mary Lois Creacy

1934-2004

CLYDE -- Mary Lois Petty Creacy, sister of Margie Brown of Snyder, died Wednesday, April 7, following a brief illness.

Service for Mrs. Creacy, 69, was held today at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde.

Born on Aug. 17, 1934, she was educated in her hometown of Jal. N.M. She also had lived in Malta, Haiti and Norway. Mrs. Creacy retired after working 11 years at the Texas State School in Abilene.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Hale; her second husband, Linnie Lee Creacy; and one grandson, Joseph Shane Harbour.

She is survived by her children, Don L. Creacy of Kentucky, Linda Diane Morse of Abilene and Deborah Aileen Harbour of Louisiana; three brothers, Bill Petty of Florida, Sam Petty of Oklahoma and Frank Petty of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
