SEMINOLE -- The Snyder Tigers put together a complete game Tuesday, quelling a Seminole uprising with a seven-run fifth inning to take a 14-8 victory over the Indians.
Blake Grimmett pitched four innings for the win, blasting a two-run homer and driving in five runs.
Snyder collected 14 hits and took advantage of seven Seminole errors.
Snyder led 4-0 going into the bottom of the second when Seminole sophomore Drew Phillips hit a three-run homer to make it 4-3.
The score remained that way until Snyder (14-3, 4-0) exploded in the fifth to make it 11-6, then added one more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to hold off a late Indian charge. Seminole (8-7, 2-2) scored three in the fifth and two in the sixth off reliever Lico Castillo before Ty Collier closed out the game with a one-two-three seventh.
“Our lineup did a great job,” head coach Charles Bollinger said. “We hit the ball hard and we hit it well. Seminole’s good -- they have some good hitters, but our pitchers did a fine job.”
Hadley Hirt had a big game at the plate, driving in four runs on a pair of doubles, and Marcus Villarreal was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
Isaac Ramon collected two hits, and Bradley Price, Alex Neal and Eric Martinez each connected for a base hit.
Jordan Dea had a hit and an RBI sacrifice fly, and Nathan Hernandez plated a run with a base knock.
The win sets up a showdown with fellow unbeaten Sweetwater (15-3, 4-0) Friday. Sweetwater, ranked ninth in the state in the Texas High School Coaches Association poll, topped Merkel, 10-3, Tuesday.
In the other 3-3A game Tuesday, Lamesa got its first district victory by topping Denver City, 4-1.
Ty Collier will take the hill for Snyder against Sweetwater, while the Mustangs will send their ace Reid Bishop to the mound.
Bollinger expects an electric atmosphere at Moffett Field for the close of the first half of the district season.
“Our guys are looking forward to it,” he said. “It should be exciting. I’m sure we’ll have a big crowd. Our guys are full of confidence -- they think they can beat these guys.”
The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
