The Westerners dropped three of four to Howard College over the weekend, preventing the sweep with a 10-8 victory in Saturday’s opener.

After being shut out 10-0 in the opener, WTC (10-30, 4-18) dropped the se cond contest, 5-2.

Shay Franks pitched 2 1/3 innings to earn the win in the third game of the series, a 10-8 slugfest.

Landon Thompson was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a double, and Eric Brown jacked a two-run blast while going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two steals.

Josh Heiney also collected two RBIs on two base hits.

WTC (10-30, 4-18) led, 4-3, going into the final inning of the series finale but lost, 9-5.

Thompson had a single, double and triple in the finale.

“We played well all weekend, but we have to get some consistency at the plate. We go through spurts where we score a lot and spurts where we don’t score at all,” head coach Billy Hefflinger said. “We’re playing great defense, and our ERA is dropping -- we just need to get the bats going. We have to score runs at Odessa.”

WTC is slated to host Wayland Baptist at 2 p.m. Tuesday, before making its final road trip of the season this weekend, with a four-game set with Odessa College beginning aith a doubleheader at noon Friday.
