To help dedicate the new softball field on the Western Texas College campus, Saturday has been declared “Spirit Day.”
The softball field will officially be named United Field based on a $100,000 donation by United Supermarkets to the WTC athletic program two years ago.
A new “United Field” sign will be unveiled prior to the first pitch.
Following the dedication ceremony, the WTC Dusters will host Howard College in a conference double header beginning at 1 p.m. Another double header against Howard will be played Sunday, also starting at 1 p.m.
Ceremonies begin at 11 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the Snyder Chamber of Commerce Gold Coats.
Following the ceremony, there will be a tailgate party with a hamburger dinner. Cost is $5 per plate and serving will continue until game time.
Prior to the game, the Lady Dusters and the coaching staff will be introduced. Shelly Bradberry, daughter of Jerry and Linda Englert, will sing the National Anthem.
The first pitch will be thrown by Gary Shifflett, manager of the Snyder United Supermarket.
The dedication was originally set for March 5, but rainy weather caused a delay in the completion of the softball complex.
